PEDAL power is the only way to go for Gareth Jones from Lymington who loves the fitness and fun benefits of life on two wheels.

He leads inclusive rides around the New Forest for people with disabilities who would otherwise miss out.

And he loves to do the school run on his Raleigh Mustang too.

Gareth told the Daily Echo: "I love my bike as it is the greenest form of transport you can get, it keeps me fit and is just good fun.

"Most of the time I ride around the New Forest, but really enjoy exploring new places.

"My favourite place to ride is at work. I work at PEDALL New Forest Inclusive Cycling, where I lead rides for people with disabilities that wouldn’t be able to get out and ride in the Forest.

"It’s great for my mental and physical health and it also keeps my fuel cost down.

"My family love it too. We go for regular rides and my boys enjoy riding their bikes to school.

"During the first lockdown my seven-year-old covered over 100 miles (in shorter bursts) raising money for PEDALL."

Gareth is keen to extoll the virtues of cycling and believes all road users could improve their behaviour.

He added: "The biggest problem we have in this country is that the car is king! Everything is built to accommodate cars first, then others second. Until this is addressed other road users will always be at risk. The majority of roads were built before cars were invented yet they still take priority. Also the behaviours of all road users needs to be improved not just drivers."

PEDALL aims to make cycling on the New Forest's 100 miles of off-road cycle-tracks available to anyone no matter what challenges they may face.
