TETBURY Goods Shed Arts Centre is pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural Tetbury Goods Shed Young People’s Writing Competition.

And sincere thanks to everyone who entered.

The standard and variety of the submissions impressed the judges greatly and made it all the harder to choose a winner in each category.

After much deliberation they agreed that the deserving winners of this year’s competition for stories, poems or essays on the topic of The Perfect Day are: Age 7-12 Years – Winner: Seth. Highly commended: Eva.

Age 13-16 Years – Winner: Elise. Highly Commended: Arwen.

Age 17-21 Years – Winner: Ellie.

The winner will receive a prize of up to £30 in vouchers to spend in The Yellow-Lighted Bookshops in Tetbury and Nailsworth.

Winners will be presented with their vouchers when restrictions on “non-essential” retailers are lifted.

And of course thanks must go to the judges for working together across continents and time zones: Christine Berry, Phil Kirby, Annie Hooper and finally, thanks also to the competition coordinator, Carol Paton, for making it all happen. Well done all.

WITH lockdown easing for outdoor sports, Tetbury Bowls Club is eagerly getting ready for the new season.

A club spokesperson said: “Last year, we were unable to play our usual full programme of fixtures, but we did get to play a few internal club competitions while keeping socially distant. Lots of sanitisation was provided for both players and equipment. With new changing rooms ready and green care well underway, members can’t wait to return to play.”

Located next to Tetbury’s recreation grounds, members play lawn bowls throughout the summer and enjoy lots of social events – from fun bowls days to bingo and barbecues.

Potential new players will be welcome to participate in the annual open day on May 1; this event offers everyone an opportunity to come and try the game with free taster sessions.

Covid-safety protocols determined by Bowls England will be in place.

If you would like to find out more then please visit the club’s website (www.tetburybowlsclub.co.uk), get in touch via email tetburybowls@gmail.com or call 07414 274375.
