ADVER Sport reporter Jonny Leighfield gives his view on all the latest to come out of Swindon Town.

John Sheridan’s men have enjoyed quite a successful week, all told. A last-gasp victory against Crewe Alexandra might not have been what they deserved, but the league table isn’t based on what teams deserve - if it was, Hull City wouldn’t still have a chance of promotion.

Town then followed their win up with a thoroughly enjoyable 2-2 draw away at Lincoln on Tuesday night. Again, Town perhaps deserved to win that, but the Imps are made of sterner stuff and no-one of a Swindon persuasion left the LNER Stadium unhappy with a point.

I think it’s probably too early to say momentum is starting to build at the County Ground, but two wins and a draw from the past five games shows all might not be lost just yet.

Saturday’s game against Northampton will provide a little more context to the recent handful of games. If Swindon emerge victorious, it will be three games unbeaten, with confidence high, heading into a trio of fixtures that will test the metal of this team.

If Sheridan’s men lose, away games against Sunderland and Accrington Stanley that precede a home derby against Oxford United are not what this team really wants or needs.

Meanwhile, Scott Twine was beaten to January’s goal of the month award by Bristol Rovers’ Luke McCormick after a Twitter vote went in favour of the Gas man’s free-kick against Crewe Alexandra.

When I saw this, I was confused. When several fans of other clubs were commenting under the tweet saying they also felt the decision was wrong, that signalled to me that the end result definitely wasn’t right.

Surely, it should be down to a select panel at the EFL to decide this kind of thing instead of allowing a certain fan base to hijack a social media vote?

Twine’s strike is a bona fide goal-of-the-season contender, and it may well win that particular award, but how ridiculous is it going to look if it does after failing to win the monthly competition?

Also, spare a though for Northampton’s Danny Rose who scored with a bicycle kick from outside the box - and he came a distant third...

Finally, following the government’s announcement regarding fans returning in May, I hope to see you all at a Town game next season.
