Tetbury news with Kevin Painter

ONE of the nicest parts of writing the Tetbury Talk community section for this newspaper is when members of our community who write or even call with a simple story, as was the case when Sallie Dearnley contacted me.

Sallie was out for her daily exercise when she chanced upon what could’ve been mistaken for an oasis, however it was a family who had made a table of scrumptious yummy treats.

I think Sallie put it perfectly herself with her note to me that said: ‘During my walk today, I came across this table of goodies on a front drive in Tetbury. What an act of loving kindness.”

Sallie just wanted to say thank you for this act of kindness.

If you come across an act of kindness then please contact me to share.

Even though the news seems to be more positive and the weather is improving, we still need positive good news and ability to thank people.

TETBURY Tesco are teaming up with Tetbury Town Council by donating some special Easter hampers that will be distributed to a few lucky residents, which hopefully will help combat this social isolation, which has really affected so many people recently.

This is following on from the success of the Christmas dinners that were delivered last Christmas by a few councillors and council office staff.

So if you know of someone who is facing social isolation please contact mayor Ann Pearce by email annpearce@tetbury.gov.uk or by calling the council office on 01666 504670.

Thanks must go to Steve Fagg, the Tesco manager who by kindly donating and coordinating this project with the assistance of the town council will bring a smile to the faces of many.

And please remember that there will be a limited number of hampers that will be donated.

WHAT does a museum curator do during lockdown?

Well Maria Marsh the Tetbury Police Museum curator has been working hard on applying for grants and at the last Heritage and Regeneration committee meeting, the curator was thanked for her hard work and success of the Heritage England Grant.

The curator has spent a considerable amount of time fulfilling the request of the grant for the restoration of the external stairs, that lead to the main courthouse room and she was delighted to announce that it had been granted.

The work on the restoration of the stairs is to begin this year with a completion date of September 2021.

This is fantastic news and will be a great addition to the police museum returning it back to its former glory and assisting when it can reopen once more.

WELL done and a big thank you to everyone who donated to Friends of Tetbury Hospital following a fantastic performance by Peter Hyson and the Murder Mystery team.

Katherine Landale, chairman of the Friends of Tetbury Hospital said: “Huge thanks to you all for raising £555 for our appeal.

“Your support is hugely appreciated and wonderful. Thank you”
