North Wiltshire MP James Gray says Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s roadmap sets an achievable route towards 'some kind of normality'.

A four-stage plan could see England’s coronavirus restrictions finally lifted by June 21, Boris Johnson announced on Monday.

In the first phase, all pupils in England’s schools are expected to return to class from March 8.

A further easing of restrictions will take place on March 29 – with larger groups of up to six people or two households allowed to gather in parks and gardens.

Hairdressers, nail salons, libraries, outdoor attractions and outdoor hospitality venues such as beer gardens will not be allowed to reopen until April 12.

By May 17, the government hopes to see the return of the rule of 6 indoors, indoor hospitality including pubs, gyms and outdoor sport.

Nightclubs and any other remaining sectors will not return until June 21 at the very earliest with the hope for no more limits on social contact.

Mr Gray said: “The roadmap seems to me to set a modest and achievable route towards what we all want - a return to some kind of normality.

"It neither rushes things so that we would risk another spike and all that that would entail; but nor does it delay things unduly.

"It sets out very clearly how we are going to judge whether or not the lockdown and vaccine programme have worked; and it sets a number of tests to keep on top of the virus.

"I also congratulate the Government on a superb vaccination programme, which beats the rest of Europe into a cocked hat; and I thank and congratulate all of those who have been involved in the vaccination programme across North Wiltshire.

"I am getting very positive reports from Calne and Malmesbury in particular; and they plus other centres and GPs surgeries seem to me to be doing a brilliantly efficient job."
