A DANCE school in Cirencester who prides themselves in providing ‘dance for all’ has won a prestigious award.

Spiral Dance Studio was opened over 30 years ago with the aim to provide accessible dance for any age and ability.

Since taking over in 2017, Katharine Dudley has continued to embrace this ideal and has developed the school into a supportive place where members feel safe and included.

“We believe that everyone, no matter what age or ability, should experience the joy of dance,” Katherine said.

This dedication caught the attention of the judges and they were awarded the dance classes of the year award.

The award was given to the team at a pivotal moment, at the same time as they would usually perform their annual show at Bingham Hall, which was cancelled due to Covid.

“Covid-19 has impacted the arts and also the lives of many, many children so devastatingly.

“It is so important to support our dancers’ mental and physical health and even more so in these uncertain times.

“Keeping everyone moving and connected has not only supported our dancers’ mental health but seeing a group of faces smiling back at us through a screen has meant the world to our teachers.

“We were lucky to have six weeks in the studio together in September and October with strict coronavirus measures in place which really boosted our spirits and the community feel was stronger than ever before.”

Their classes are full of professionals and celebrities, including Joanne Clifton from Strictly Come Dancing.

Corporate Livewire South England Prestige awards were set up to recognise businesses that have proven to be the best.

The judges were impressed with the overall positivity and connectedness of the school, which managed to continue running and welcomed new recruits despite multiple lockdowns.

“I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of my dancers and teachers who consistently showed up, smiling and improving while we are faced with such challenges,” said Katharine.
