Tetbury community news with Kevin Painter

TETBURY Town Council held at extraordinary meeting which took place on Thursday, February 4.

At the meeting the town council resolved to forward the S106 monies in relation to the Steepleton development subject to an audit trail for the sum of £9,750.

Councillors voted to accept the legal advice received in relation to the forwarding of the S106 monies.

It was resolved that a working group be set-up between both organisations to resolve outstanding issues.

The first meeting of the working group took place on Friday, February 5, and regular updates will be provided to the full council and the finance & scrutiny committee of the council.

Further meetings have been organised between both parties.

SOMETHING we should be looking forward to is the fact Tetbury will be taking part in the Kingfisher Trail.

The Kingfisher Trail 2021 will be launched on the Spring Bank Holiday in May and run until October half-term, and will feature 21 kingfishers (painted by talented artists) located in towns and villages connected to our rivers, not only within the Cotswolds but also reaching into surrounding towns and cities.

The Feoffees and the town council are sharing the cost of a medium statue which is a 3ft Kingfisher on a 4ft Plinth.

It is hoped it could be sited at the millennium green as it would celebrate the hard work that both organisations have achieved down at the water course.

It has been reported on social media that many residents have seen a kingfisher there so very serendipitous!

Here in the west, the Severn Trail will follow the tributaries of the River Severn and the Cotswold Way along the dramatic escarpment.

In the east, the Thames Trail will link stunning Cotswold villages and the waterways and tributaries of the River Thames.

Each trail will feature 10 gloriously painted kingfisher sculptures.

The 21st kingfisher, the flying kingfisher, will move to a new location each fortnight and could be found anywhere in the Cotswolds!

The site of the flying kingfisher is a surprise visit.

We won’t know exactly when or if she/he will arrive.

The kingfisher was chosen because it is an iconic bird that has a connection to both land and water.

Though in the past its numbers have been through periods of decline, it’s a survivor and symbolises adaptability and resilience.

As the country comes out of the coronavirus crisis, the Kingfisher Trail aims to be a positive symbol of recovery and to inspire an increased appreciation of nature.

It will give people an opportunity to spend time outdoors exploring the Cotswolds and the many leisure, entertainment and cultural activities the area has to offer.

For more information please visit www.kingfishertrail.org.

DUE to current crisis more people are enjoying the local area for their daily exercise.

Many people have been commenting positively about the work that the town council ground staff do to keep the town looking as fantastic as it does.

There has been a very positive response of praise and thank you to the team on Facebook and to the council offices over the work done at the Goods Shed and surrounding area.

The team have worked hard throughout the year.

This week, following on from a observation from Mrs Thomas over a missing headstone, the team have uncovered a headstone that has been overgrown by bushes.

The team have since managed to sympathetically expose it and bring it back to be part of the churchyard.

Colin the groundstaff foreman wanted to thank the public and of course his team for all their constant support.

THE Tetbury 451 Comic Book Initiative Gallery Centre is having to move.

The centre is dedicated to the display of original comic book art and first editions.

Due to open before the Covid pandemic prevented it, the centre will now move as the town council felt that current lease for the Combe House building/hub with its business rates and maintenance contract was too high and voted not to renew it.

However it will now have a new home situated at the Old Courthouse 63 Long Street, which is of course home to the town council and will be sharing and complimenting the Police Museum.

And as with the Police Museum will be completely free, when allowed to open.

The 451 initiative has many facets.

The free centre/museum will be a home to display and exhibit original art and comics from our past our childhood heritage.

There will also be residential workshops and outreach/touring workshops.

And of course the initiative will be going online as well.

It is hoped there will be a Comic Convention with Cosplay later this year if guidelines allow.

So if you have an interest in this medium, or even a writer artist of any level please get in contact.

The aim is to promote this Artform as an Artform and everyone involved in this medium.

We will be looking for donations of old comics, graphic novels or artwork and anything comic book related.

If you would like further information, have suggestions or would like to get involved in this initiative please visit the website 451comics.co.uk or contact Kevin by email comics451@icloud.com.

If you prefer you can ring or text on 07745 716547.

Thanks must go to the town council for the ongoing support.
