PRINCESS Anne offered a rare peek into her Minchinhampton home, as she and her husband watched the rugby on Saturday.

The image was intended as a celebration of Scotland's historic Six Nations rugby victory over England, but the viewing public were more interested in the decor and furniture inside.

The photo, shared on the official Royal Family Instagram and Twitter account, shows Princess Anne and her husband, Timothy Laurence, watching the match on television on a sofa at the Gatcombe Park estate, near Stroud.

The cosy sitting room scene led to a mixed reaction online, with some praising the image for being 'normal-looking', while others commented that the clutter was 'claustrophobic'.

In the photo, a coffee table, holding a number of books, a dog bed by the TV and shelves displaying horse-riding memorabilia, family photographs and ornaments can be seen.

One commenter said: "Thank you HRH but please declutter, that would play havoc with my OCD"

Another posted: "I feel a little claustrophobic just looking at all the stuff in their living room!"

One person wrote: “And I was worried about my clutter!”

And another said: "I was expecting a bigger and more tidy living room"

Royal author Phil Dampier wrote on Twitter: "Good to see a bit of clutter! No minimalism here."

But there were supportive comments too.

One person wrote: "Absolutely love seeing Princess Anne and Tim so at home, well played Scotland".

In total more than 125,000 people liked the photo on Instagram.
