A MAJOR clean-up operation is underway in Cirencester after heavy rain left residents wading in flood water for the second time this winter.

Cotswold District Council teams have been supporting residents in Siddington whose street has flooded over the weekend.

Sewers also overflowed, causing sewer waste to enter the flood waters.

The district council, Ubico Limited and Cirencester Town Council have helped deploy sandbags and pumps to try and prevent internal property flooding.

A spokesman for Cotswold District Council said: "We have been working day and night to make sure the affected elderly residents are okay.

"Residents bins can be collected and water is being pumped away to stop the flooding of homes.

"Hopefully, the waters will recede soon and residents can get life back to normal.

"We are continuing to work with partners to resolve the flooding issues long term and we are holding the Cotswold Flooding Forum on February 11, at 6pm, so residents can make their views heard."
