Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that it will not be possible for children to return immediately after the February half term.

The new date for planned return will be Monday March 8, depending on data regarding vaccine numbers and whether the rates of infection have reduced.

Mr Johnson also said the Government do not want people to endure lockdown "a day longer than necessary saying the nation remains in a perilous situation.

Mr Johnson addressed the House of Commons today, giving an unexpected statement regarding lockdown restrictions in England.

Schools were originally due to reopen after the half term in February.
