Tetbury news with Kevin Painter

AT the recent public town council consultation which took place on January 12, the original initial proposal was an 8 percent increase meaning an extra £2.63 p/w for a Band D property.

However at the last finance and scrutiny meeting on January 18 by looking through the budgets the Finance and Scrutiny meeting will now be recommending to full council that the precept request will be £389,480.

It was then voted on and unanimously agreed to put forward the proposed increase of 7 percent, this will mean an increase of £2.31 p/w for a Band D property.

This will now be put forward to council to vote on at the next full town council meeting dated January 25, starting at 7pm.

At the start of all meetings there is a public consultation session where fifteen minutes is allowed for public questions or statements.

Each person is to state name and to be allowed three minutes maximum.

Questions may be answered briefly but not debated.

Issues may be referred for subsequent response if necessary.

If you have any questions you can email them in or even speak online at the beginning of the meeting.

THIS week Reverend Poppy Hughes with the churchwardens made the decision to suspend public worship in all church buildings in Tetbury for the time being.

This is in response to the gravity of the situation: the increased risk of transmission of Covid-19, and the chief medical officer’s request for people to stay at home and avoid contact with others.

This will of course be kept under review, as public worship in church buildings is allowed under current restrictions.

However St Mary’s Church is still offering virtual church services which are held on Sundays at 10am, which is open to everyone.

If you would like to find out more about online Zoom virtual Sunday Worship, then please contact Diana to be added to the mailing list and for your invitation link office@tetburychurch.co.uk.
