A woman who died in "unexplained" circumstances in a leafy Cotswolds village has been named locally as Tara Long.

Police have arrested a man, aged in his 40s, after being called to an address in Great Rissington on Sunday.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said it is treating the death as "unexplained" while inquiries take place.

Two officers remain outside the property.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "People have been putting 'rest in peace' on Facebook. It's sad. I didn't know her that much.

"The police turned up at around 11:30am and haven't left since. There was an ambulance and first response here, then the police started coming.

"It's not really expected around here."

Another neighbour, who also asked to remain anonymous, said: "It's very sad. We don't want to say anything more."

Tributes have been posted on the wall of a Facebook account owned by a woman named 'Tara Long', aged in her 40s.

The Facebook account describes her as a Self Employed Furniture Upcycler.

One said: "Rest in peace my beautiful soul sister and birthday twin, we had our ups and downs but the love was always there, the hugs and the laughter.

"We came into the world on the same day, but you have left us far too soon, there will always be a part of my heart missing but I know you will still be there with me."

Another said: "I am so saddened to hear you're gone my sweet. Rest in peace now sweet angel."

A third posted: "Sleep well now Tara, love to all your loved ones."

Police said they were called to an address in Great Rissington, which has a population of around 370 people, at around 11:35am yesterday.

In a statement, the force said: "There will be ongoing police activity at an address in a Cotswolds village due to an investigation which is taking place following the death of a woman.

"Police were called by the ambulance service at around 11.35am near to Bourton-on-the-Water, where a woman was found deceased.

"At this early stage of an investigation the death of the woman, who is aged in her 40s, is being treated as unexplained while inquiries take place.

"Her next of kin are aware and the coroner has also been informed.

"Police are likely to remain in the area for a number of days while the investigation continues."

The man, in his 40s, has been bailed until December 21.

A post mortem will take place tomorrow.
