Work on a 350-home development in Thornbury is set to begin.

Miller Homes will begin work on Cleve Wood this Autumn, following delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The housebuilder bought the 55-acre Cleve Park site off Morton Way from Landform Estates earlier this year.

South Gloucestershire Council had refused planning permission back in 2017, but the Planning Inspectorate Clive Hughes overruled its decision and their appeal was dismissed by the High Court last year.

The development will consist of 350 two to five-bedroom properties, 123 of which will be affordable.

Miller Homes has now revealed how £1.6million worth of Section 106 contributions will be distributed.

More than £800,000 will be spent on open spaces and outdoor sports facilities in the town and the surrounding area. This will include maintaining the Cleve Wood and Crossways woodland as well as allotments for the new residents. Miller Homes is planning to set out a woodland management scheme to ensure that trees are protected and residents have access to the area.

A further £500,000 will be put towards highways. This includes traffic calming measures on Morton Way, a new footpath connecting the development to Crossways School and the installation of three new bus shelters.

Improvements will be carried out on Grovesend Road and at the Church Street junction with the A38. The remaining contributions will be put towards recreation.

The new development is set to launch online in March 2021, with the showhome opening in late spring.

Danny O’Connor, divisional managing director for Miller Homes Midlands and the South said: “We’re really excited to get started on Miller Homes @ Cleve Wood this Autumn.

"Like with any new Miller Homes neighbourhood, we understand the importance of contributing to the community, to ensure local services, highways and leisure facilities can support new and existing residents in the area. That’s why this investment of £1.6m for Thornbury is so important.

"We look forward to the upcoming launch of the new neighbourhood next Spring.”
