Malmesbury League of Friends (MLOF) has donated £5,000 to Wiltshire-based charity Doorway.

Doorway is a charity drop-in centre for those who live locally and are homeless or marginalised because they have complex needs including physical and mental health issues, poor life skills, debt or substance use.

Its day centre, located in the centre of Chippenham, operates two open access drop-in sessions each week, when they provide a range of services including hot meals, showers, laundry, clothing, toiletries and one-to-one support and referrals from trained staff.

MLOF, among its activities, provides much needed funds to enable local charities support those with specific needs, which are not always available from other sources.

MLOF chair David Hide said: “Although most of our donations are related to medical needs, we know what an absolutely vital service that Doorway provides.

"We believe it’s essential that it is able to continue this important work and we are delighted to help in this way.”

Doorway director Jo Kitching said: “We are extremely grateful for this cash boost, which has come at a time when many of our usual funding sources have dried up.

"This will help secure our long-term presence, supporting for those in our community who are in most need - the homeless and vulnerably housed.”
