A 25-year-old Gloucester man who drove carelessly at Barnsley, near Cirencester - and was also caught speeding twice on the same day in Northamptonshire - has been banned from the roads for eight months and ordered to pay almost £2,500 in fines, costs and surcharges.

At Cheltenham Magistrates Court on October 31, Angus Freeman of Southern Ave, Tuffley, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to driving a VW Amarok car without due care and attention on the B4425 at Barnsley on August 26 last year.

He was also convicted of speeding twice on the same day, June 13 2019, in Kettering.

The magistrates fined him £1,280 for the careless driving offence and disqualified him for eight months.

They ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £170 surcharge on that charge. They said they were imposing a ban because of his 'repeat offending.'

The speeding offences in Northants were, first, on the C8 Kettering roadd, Islip, at 39mph in a 30mph limit and then at 41mph in a 30mph limit on  Oundle rd, Thrapston, Kettering.

The magistates fined him £853 with costs of £85 for those offences and imposed seven penalty points on his licence.

The court orders left him with a total bill of £2,473 and the eight month disqualication.
