Business owners in Dursley have been reacting to the news that there will be a new national lockdown next week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a month-long national lockdown for England.

The PM said the national lockdown will start at one second past midnight on Thursday, November 5, and will last until Wednesday, December 2.

Responding to the news, Jan Johnson, owner of That New Shop in Dursley, said: "I feel really down about it today.

"We were just building up our trade and this is the busiest time of the year for me so it's all just so worrying with the impact it will have.

"The staff were furloughed during the first lockdown and we had support with the grants, but I just don't know where we will stand this time, but if that's what I have to do that's what we will have to do."

John, the owner of the Oak at Kingshill pub in Dursley, said: I" wanted us to lockdown over half term to stop the spread , but I think doing it now is bad for the economy and industry.

"An earlier circuit breaker would have had a better effect, but I think psychologically opening back up for the first week of December will pretty much wipe out the first two weeks of December because people might be hesitant to return."
