Fairford news with Chris Roberts

SADLY, the annual fireworks night in Fairford has been cancelled this year.

Organisers, Fairford Primary School and Fairford Rugby Club sincerely hope that it will be back bigger and better next year.

FAIRFORD Town Council has reconsidered its decision to hold the Fairford Festive Market this year and has sadly decided to cancel the event, which was scheduled for Friday, December 4.

This was a hard decision for the council to make, but public safety is paramount.

Other towns in the county – Cheltenham, Cirencester and Gloucester – have also cancelled, as well as nearby Bath and Bristol.

This means that our Fairford event may have prompted many more people to come into Fairford from neighbouring town, which could potentially cause a rise in the rate of coronavirus infection and the town council feels that this is an unnecessary risk to take.

The weekly Wednesday market will continue to operate with stall holders taking responsibility for ensuring that social distancing is maintained.

The festive season will not be forgotten in Fairford, as the Christmas lights and tree will still be put up in the town centre.

DESPITE not being able to hold the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning this year, Fairford Bowls Club has received donations of £915.

A sterling effort under the circumstances. Hopefully, next year, all will be back to normal.

YOUTH and community organisations, Young Gloucestershire and World Jungle, have teamed up to offer a fun, interactive training session for those who want to support young people with positive things to do.

If you are interesting in working with young people, the training will take place online via Zoon on Wednesday, October 14, at 6pm and will last about an hour and a half.

The training will give participants an opportunity to find out what is going on in the Cotswolds, what youth projects there are, and what opportunities for volunteering exist.

It will also help to increase participants’ confidence and skills to engage with young people and help ensure their voices are heard in the area.

If you are interested in volunteering and taking part in the training, please phone Ben on 0788 951264 or email jane@worldjungle.org.uk.

THE Macmillan Outdoor Cake & Bake Sale, which was held on Saturday, September 19, in West End Gardens, raised over £1,700 for the national cancer support charity.

The organisers would like to thank all who helped with this event including the local businesses, who donated raffle prizes, and the people who bought tickets and supported the cake and bake sale.
