SEVEN University of Gloucestershire students have tested positive for Covid 19.

They are currently being supported by welfare teams and are understood to have mild symptoms.

Students that share households with them are also isolating and are awaiting test results.

A spokeswoman for the university said: “We understand that news of a small number of cases at the University may be very unsettling, and that this is a difficult and worrying time for students and staff, but can reassure everyone in the University community and our local neighbours that we are closely monitoring the situation and are working with Public Health England and our local Health Protection Team.

"We are actively taking appropriate actions to minimise the risk of any further transmission and to support students and staff. Those affected students are being supported by the University’s accommodation and welfare teams as they self-isolate.

“Following the advice of PHE and our local Health Protection Teams, the University remains open and face-to-face teaching is continuing. Our buildings on campus remain Covid-Secure, and we have reiterated to all staff and students that it is essential that we all continue to observe the basic rules of social distancing, wearing of face coverings, observing good hand hygiene, and self-isolating when experiencing even symptoms.

"Students have also been reminded of the need to observe the ‘rule of 6’ when socialising both on and off campus.”

Those who have not received any notification to self-isolate can continue to attend university as normal.
