A woman from Yate who won an Unsung Hero award in last years Sports Personality of the Year, has released a single for Children in Need with pop legend Rick Astley.

Georgina Moore, won her award in last years honours for her work in sport.

Georgina, who is severely physically disabled, founded the GEM Boccia Club at Yate Leisure Centre in 2017 as she wanted to be part of a sports club despite her disabilities. She has now been called upon, alongside other Unsung Hero winners from 2019 and a host of sport stars, including Ben Stokes and Dame Jessica Ennis, to lend her vocals to the single, released this week.

The single 'Everyone of us' released September, 22, will celebrate the Unsung Hero awards for 2019 whilst raising money for BBC's Children In Need charity.

Olympic and Paralympic stars Tanni Grey-Thompson, Will Bailey, Karen Adenegan, Ellie and Beckie Downie, Sam Quek and Ellie Simmonds also appear in the video to show off their dancing and singing, along with Alex Scott, Gabby Logan and Gareth Thomas.

Raising funds for BBC Children in Need, the single will be the anthem for the awards in a year where keeping community spirits high has never been more important.

Rick Astley said: “When I was asked to launch a single in honour of Unsung Hero and to raise money for BBC Children in Need I didn’t hesitate. Both are brilliant causes and I hope the song can bring a bit of joy and solidarity during what has been a strange and unprecedented year.”

Georgina was overjoyed to be asked to take part in the project, recording her voice remotely and then attending the Olympic Park in London to film the music video.

She said: "This was one of the best experiences of my life. I got to finally meet Mr Rick Astley

"The song is to raise money for Children in Need. This is a fantastic cause and is a charity I can relate to.

"I was a child in need and relied on different resources to enable me to live my life. I am now 2019 Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero for the West and have a record out!

"I want children to see this and feel inspired that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.

"I haven’t been given the same opportunities as other people when it comes to things everyone expects, but now I’ve been given an opportunity that very few people will ever get. I am so grateful for the exposure this could help for disability rights, disability sport and inclusive sport."

This year their will be a new addition to the awards, the Captain Tom: Young Unsung Hero award. The winner of this will be selected from nominations across the UK of individuals under 15 who have made a big difference in their local community through sport during Covid 19.

Director of Sport, Barbara Slater said: “Unsung Hero is about honouring the people who show up rain or shine to inspire people to take part in grassroots sports and make a real difference in their local area. During what has been a very difficult year, 2020 will feel extra special as we recognise those volunteers who helped keep their community going.”

The single will be available to download on all streaming and download services from 22 September. All net profits will go to BBC Children in Need*.
