WOTTON Lions had been due to hold their major fundraiser of the year, a 10k run called 10,000m Under the Edge, last weekend.

“Unfortunately Covid19 meant we had to rethink this year’s event,” said Wotton Lion Chris Anthony.

The run was launched last year and proved to be very popular.

“It is our major fundraiser of the year,” said Chris.

“So we looked to see if we could offer it in a different way and came up with our Virtual with a Difference.

“We invited people to enter to run in guided groups of less than six, or to do their own run.

“It turned out to be a great success, with over 100 people signed up.”

Starting and finishing from Renishaw New Mills, the run featured four routes to suit different abilities.

The toughest option was The Beast, which included many steep hills, The Ultimate offered a fast and flat route, with the Manors and Castles route taking in Ozleworth and Newark.

And the most popular option was the Rita Awesome route, which was named after pop star Rita Ora, who spent lockdown in the area.

Lions President, Jessica Turner said: “The cancellation was a huge blow to the Lions, so we were pleased with the support received.

“The reactions received for our Virtual with a Difference shows that it was enjoyed as something different by our community.”
