Fairford and Lechlade community news with Chris Roberts

COTSWOLD MP, Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, invited Fairford’s 12-year-old eco-warrior, Heather Kent to join him last weekend in his September Litter Pick around Cirencester.

Sir Geoffrey and Heather formed part of a team of ten, who were split into smaller groups to adhere to the Covid-19 rules, and managed to collect eight large sacks of rubbish in and around the Abbey grounds, Cirencester Park and the RAU grounds.

THERE will be a temporary road closure at 3/168 Road from Horcott Road to Whelford Road and 3/172 Road from southwest of Bowmoor House to Washpool Lane junction from October 7 to October 22.

The works will take place overnight from 7pm-7am (excluding weekends) to allow contractors working on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council to carry out carriageway surfacing works.

If you require any further information regarding this closure, please contact Glos Highways on 08000 514514.

THE Cotswold Arcadians will be inviting budding actors, technicians and crew to contact them if they would like to be a part of the Arcadians’ production of “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare scheduled for July 2021 at Hatherop Castle.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, October 1, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm and Sunday, October 4, from 2.30pm to 5pm in Quenington Village Hall, GL7 5BS.

Set entirely outdoors, it is short, entertaining and full of action.

It needs no complex scenery or scene changes, but it provides extensive opportunities for backstage creativity in props, lighting, sound, special effects, costume and make-up.

More details of the Cotswold Arcadians’ open auditions for “The Tempest” are available at arcadians.org/auditions-2.

FAIRFORD Bowls Club has reluctantly decided not to hold the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning scheduled for September 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing issues.

Some donations have already been collected and these will be sent to Macmillan together with any other donations after September 25.

LECHLADE Craft Barn has found a temporary new home with workshops now taking place in Lechlade Memorial Hall.

Co-owners, Jennie Turner-Maskell and Karen Holland have adapted to the Covid situation and changed the format of the craft workshops to comply with Government guidelines.

In July, they achieved Visit England’s ‘Good-To-Go’ status, confirming the new way of delivering workshops adhered to public health guidelines.

Last week, they demonstrated they were going above and beyond to deliver workshops as safely as possible following a spot check by Visit England.

“We’re still delivering the fun and friendly element of workshops, but we’re just all a little bit further apart,” said Jennie.

The demand for workshops is busier than ever with places on Christmas workshops booking up fast.

“We will have to limit the number of Christmas workshops we can hold,” said Karen.

“There is only one workshop of each of our popular Christmas makes and there’s obviously an appetite for people wanting to get out and get crafting.”

Find out more about forthcoming workshops at lechladecraftbarn.com or on facebook.com/LechladeCraftBarn.
