Due to the uncertainty of what the future holds in relation to the current coronavirus crisis, it has been decided that this year the Christmas lights switch on will be more of a virtual event, writes Kevin Painter.

In fact, at the time of writing the Christmas committee is awaiting confirmation over what lights will be available!

It is hoped that they will still have a special guest to start the Christmas celebrations, although this will be filmed and broadcast via several social media mediums so you will still be able to enjoy the Christmas festivities from the comfort of your own home.

If the situation changes there are backup plans for a more public celebration.

Unfortunately, it has also been decided to cancel the St Saviours carol service, although the Christmas tree festival will continue as normal.

Plans are now being put forward for various competitions with the schools and also with our local businesses.

Admittedly this year will be different from previous years and we will have time to reflect on the crisis and look forward to the future making it truly the season of goodwill and a time to share.
