WORK on a new restaurant and wedding hall in Blackburn has started.
Exterior walls at the former Maida Restaurant were being demolished this week with building work set to continue over the next few months.
In September last year it was announced the Eanam site would be home to the new 100-seater German Doner Kebab (GDK) restaurant which will take up the ground floor.
The second floor is set to be a new wedding hall. Work on the glass frontage and a new spiral staircase is set to begin in the coming month.
The man behind the plans to bring GDK to Blackburn is entrepreneur Assad Khalil, from Blackburn, who runs several businesses including the Pepe’s Restaurant on Victoria Street.
GDK has more than 70 branches worldwide and is growing rapidly.
Its first store opened in Berlin in 1989 and their signature doner kebabs use what they describe their ‘unique blend of traditional spices’ and exclusive products. A GDK branch opened in Preston last June.
The Adhan group of properties own the site.
