THERE is a road closure currently planned for Long Street in Tetbury from Tuesday, September 1, to Tuesday, September 8 for approximately six nights excluding weekends between the hours of 7pm to 7am.

As with all resurfacing programs, it can be affected by things like; heavy rain, changes in temperatures and other weather events, as well as plant breakdown and unforeseen technical issues that arise once work has begun.

All this means the scheme dates and details can change at very short notice, therefore you can keep abreast of the situation should anything changes by visiting gloucestershire.gov.uk/resurfacing or Facebook – Gloucestershire Roads.

COTSWOLD District Council has confirmed that they have had a number of requests for an election to be held to replace former councillor Rodney Smith who recently stood down.

However due to the Covid-19 restrictions, this is currently scheduled to take place on May 6, 2021.

Should the restrictions be lifted from the Government then this date will be moved forward.

Of course, this will mean there will be two council positions to be filled as former Cllr Rob McCorkell also stood down.

LAST week Tetbury had some visitors from representatives from Young Glos who are working in partnership with world jungle who recently had a successful £290,000 lottery bid.

The successful bid was for a project called ’Cotswold Youth’ that will include mentoring support for young people at risk of exclusion in schools, support to youth clubs, summer activities aimed at those making the transition from primary to secondary, leadership and work experiences as well as training and support for organisations and individuals who support young people.

However it’s the Young Glos Team who have been commissioned to visit Tetbury every Thursday from 1pm until 3pm and again from 4pm until 6pm, including today at the perfect Summer location of Tetbury Recreation Ground.

Alice and Madison said they were thrilled by the welcome they received and how the youth are engaging with them.

The YG Vision is for young people to have the confidence and motivational skills to improve their lives.

They work to achieve this vision by creating opportunities that educate, inform and inspire and also support young people who are facing some very difficult times.

Whether it be a disruptive home life caring for a family member, or coping with a mental health issue, young people can turn to them for help.

They offer practical ways to find confidence and develop the skills they need to get on track and move into education and get a job.

They work in partnership with county council-led provisions and follows guidelines set by the Gloucestershire Children’s Safeguarding Board to ensure the welfare of all young people.

Do you want to pop along for an informal chat?

They will be there to listen to your ideas about how you can improve your area for young people.

The project was commissioned for four weeks and the YG team will be there every Thursday at the same times until September 10.

LAST Friday, August 21, Will Cook along with mayor of Tetbury Ann Pearce officially opened the new Tetbury play area.

Will managed to raise £26,000 through fundraising donations and grant applications to fund the play area.

Will gave thanks to his amazing fundraisers who not only helped by raising funds but assisted him in obtaining funds from other sources such as grants and donations, proving how much support there was for this much-needed project.

Supporters included Tetbury Lions, the Jack Lane Trust, the Somerfield Trust, Bristol Water, Eagle Plant, his own team including Barrie Doyle, Carol Paton, and of course Graham Cleaver.

Thanks also go to the amazing professionals from Discovery Timber Play, a local company that constructed the play area in such a short time, giving such a professional look and feel to the project.

Will also gave a special thanks to Tetbury Town Council for not only allowing the project to be built on their land but also the ongoing constant support for this project.

A perfect compliment to the new play area is the Whistlestop Café which is located nearby and has returned to a five day opening week.

From now on the cafe will open at noon on Wednesdays instead of its regular 10am.

From Thursday to Sunday it will open as normal from 10am to 4pm.
