MOST people who are about to celebrate their 92nd birthday might be happy to sit at home and enjoy a cup of tea and cake.

But not Andrew Barkley-Smith who used the quiet roads created by the coronavirus emergency to get out on his bike more. He is to cycle 92 miles to raise cash for his village church of St Peter’s Langley Burrell.

He said: “I just hope I can raise as much money as possible.”

He will be joined on the ride by church secretary Hazel Sheldon with Andrew’s granddaughter Abbie doing part of the cycle.

They will set off from the church on September 26 and take two days to complete.

Hazel said: “The ride will go through Sutton Benger where Andrew lived for over 40 years and Biddestone, where he taught as headmaster for 20 years. The vintage 1970s Dawes Super Galaxy Andrew will be riding, is the same bike he used to commute from home to school.” Go to www.sponsorme.co.uk/hazelsheldon-(1)/92for92.aspx
