The Earl and Countess Bathurst paid a surprise visit to the recently reopened Bathurst Arms in North Cerney.

The pub has only been open since the end of July but is already becoming a draw again with a new look organic menu of small plates and dishes.

Jordan Pelly, 27, took over the venue, situated on the Bathurst Estate, and was going to invite them along to see the changes he had made to the pub once settled in but the Bathurst’s decided to surprise the new landlord.

“It was great to finally meet them and listen to their stories and knowledge of the pub,” Jordan said.

“I hope that they were impressed with the venue and our plans. We invited them for a tour of our kitchen and ended up giving chef a recipe for pickled walnuts.

“They said they will be visiting again and I look forward to hosting them again.

"We want to bring a bit of community back to the venue and have met so many locals and visitors in the last couple of weeks.

"This is my first venue as a business owner and everyone has been extremely welcoming.”
