Students and staff at Westonbirt School are celebrating an excellent set of A-Level grades in an examination year like no other.

97 per cent of A-levels have been graded at A*- C with a third of students at the non-selective school achieving A – A* grades; a consistent performance for a year group where 27 per cent of students achieved Grades 8 - 9 at GCSE in 2018.

Headmistress, Natasha Dangerfield, said: “At a time when there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding this year’s exams, I am confident with the rigorous approach we took evidencing predicted grades.

"Small classes allow teachers at Westonbirt to work closely with individuals and ensure they are given every opportunity to reach their full potential.

"Importantly, in a year such as this, we have been able to confidently track and evidence final outcomes for each student.

"We will appeal a small number of grades but are extremely happy with the results that see almost 50 per cent of grades at A* - A and the 90 per cent of students achieving their first-choice university.

"I hope students feel proud of these well-deserved results, despite the ongoing debate surrounding the process of awarding them.

"There are many success stories for us to celebrate but particularly strong results have been achieved in A-Level chemistry, history, maths and art.

"Outstanding results were attained across our vocational programme with 90 per cent of students achieving the top possible grade at business studies BTEC.

"From September Westonbirt will be welcoming boys into the sixth form and we look forward to our first set of co-educational A level results in summer 2022.”
