A DAD has cycled 917 miles in support of a Thornbury school.

Justin Warr made the famous journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of Castle School Friends (CSF).

The 48-year-old is vice-chair of the group which raises money to support students and teachers at the school.

Justin, a communications consultant for the NHS, said: “It’s been a difficult time for the school and all our CSF fundraising activities have halted this year due to covid, hence my idea to do the ride as something positive for the school before we can hopefully resume some fundraisers in the Autumn.”

Despite being a keen member of Thornbury Cycling Club Justin had never taken on a challenge like this before. He started the challenge on July 11 and finished 20 days later, having had two rest days en route.

For the first week Justin travelled alone, staying in roadside inns. From Shropshire onwards he was joined by wife Kate and daughters Madison and Freya in a motorhome.

Reflecting on his journey Justin said: “The pleasure of meeting people, working up a good sweat, being outdoors, exploring, daring myself, chasing a dream and experiencing kindness in its many forms was remarkable.

“While riding with pals makes the miles slip by quicker, I’m always happy in my own company. There is so much to see and explore from the unique perspective of sitting atop a bike.

“Reaching the signpost at John O’Groats was the final act in a three week adventure which I will never forget.”

Justin has so far raised more than £1,400. To donate go to gofundme.com/f/justins-ride-for-castle-school-friends
