VISITORS will soon be able to explore the canal around Slimbridge from the vantage point of a Canadian style canoe, thanks to a new hire business.

Jess and Sally Owen already run a canalside bicycle hire business in Slimbridge, and now the couple are expanding their offering with the launch of Adventure Canoe Hire Slimbridge.

“Canadian style canoes will be available for hire from us in the very near future,” said Sally.

“The canoes are 16ft Canadian style canoes, and they will take up to two adults and two children.

“We wanted to inspire people to get out and about and explore their surroundings, to enjoy the countryside and encourage them to exercise.”

This section of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal is a recommended by British Canoeing as a good location for a first canoe trip, as it has ‘little traffic, is very quiet, and is wide enough not to hit anybody’.

Jess and Sally’s business is located beside the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal at Slimbridge.

“We will be operating from outside the Black Shed on one and a half hour sessions,” said Sally.

“We are just waiting for all the i’s to be dotted and t’s crossed before we open fully.

“In the meantime we are testing routes.”

Sessions can be booked by calling 07378321048.
