Supporting our Town Shops
Whilst laudable the suspension of Parking charges has seen the Church Street car park fuller than ever, as it’s become the place for workers to park in Stroud. A simple 2 hours free* followed by a £2 PH charge would encourage shoppers and stop ‘commuters’ filling up the car park that has actual made it more difficult to park and shop. (*research shows that shoppers spent all their money within two hours – probably less in Stroud.)
The London Road closure was born out of the notion of crowded Streets – that haven’t materialised anywhere in the country. Easy access in their cars is what people want and so to encourage people to use our Town’s shops the closure should be reversed. Saturdays could easily keep the road closure in place - if that is the way to support the market and if it is what Gerb requires.
Kind Regards
Jeremy Collingwood
