Here is a statement from Tetbury town Council.

“On Friday, Tetbury Town Council received notification that Cllr Rob McCorkell will be standing down as a serving councillor.

“Rob McCorkell has been a councillor since June 2018, and since joining the council for the second time he has served as chair to the Finance and Scrutiny Committee along with serving as deputy mayor for a year.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Rob in everything that he has achieved in two years and for guiding the council through these unprecedented times by being the lead councillor for producing and developing the business continuity plan, this has been extremely successful in allowing the council to maintain business as usual.”

Tetbury Town Council have also issued the following official press statement.

“Following Rob McCorkell’s departure we now have a vacancy for a councillor.

“The vacancy will be filled by election if a request from 10 local government electors for the town is received within 14 days of the date of this notice.

“The request must be received by July 20, 2020.

“Requests should include each electors’ name and address and should be sent to the Returning Officer at Nigel Adams, Returning Officer, Council Offices, Trinity Road, Cirencester, GL7 1PX.

“If a request by 10 electors are not received by the date given, the town council may fill the vacancy by co-option.

“If an election is called, the Coronavirus Act 2020 and The Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner Regulations 2020 regulations state that the by election will not take place, and the vacancy will be held open.

“The 2020 regulations provide for the by election to take place on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

“However, this date may be brought forward or deferred by the Government depending upon the circumstances.

“Any election that is called will be duly publicised as required by law.”
