I FEEL I must write to highlight the sort of personal quality service sadly missed over the past three months in having to resort to online shopping.

I was overzealous in cleaning decorative tiling in our bathroom as a result of which some of the coloured grout was worn away.

Although only a small area, I was conscious from past experience that to make good this would probably result in my having to buy a large bag of the grout at a cost of £20 as advertised through and online retailer.

Thankfully my local independent tile shop was now reopen subject to necessary restrictions - Cotswold Tiles here in Cirencester.

On emailing them with my predicament I received a very speedy response at 8.15am the next morning.

Not only did they have the coloured grout I needed in stock but they sold it in tubs especially made up by them to cover such contingencies.

The cost a very acceptable £5. I was able to call by within a few hours to collect.

I should not have been surprised by this experience as on moving house within the past two years the same shop went to considerable trouble in recommending suitable tiles for our hallway matching those laid already in the adjoining kitchen.

The reward to the shop from my purchase is clearly very modest but should I have future need for tiling &/or accessories I know where my first port of call will be.

I am happy also to share my story in the hope they and others living in the area will benefit from my recommendation.

It just shows online is not always cheaper, or best suited to one’s needs.
