LIVERPOOL fans in Worcester were rejoicing after the club secured its first league title in 30 years.

Members of the Worcester Area Liverpool FC Supporters Club were all following along as Chelsea defeated Man City, handing the reds their first title in three decades.

Although they couldn’t be physically there to celebrate, they were watching from their homes and savouring the moment as Liverpool finally won the Premier League.

Andy Purslow, from the group, said: “Because of there being no pubs open and social distancing, we didn’t meet up.

“We have run the supporters coach for over 40 years from Worcester, so obviously we are all delighted and cant wait to meet up again.

“We continue to travel to all the home games from Worcester and have had many celebrations including Madrid last year.

“Having been waiting 30 years for the title, it was a shame we couldn’t be together at this time, however we will definitely be having a party when next we meet it go back to the match.”

The group is always welcoming new members, and any Liverpool fans who want to attend games with them are welcome to get in touch and find out more via the group’s Facebook Page, which can be found at www.facebook.com WorcesterAreaLiverpoolFcSupportersClub/

Liverpool fans in Worcester appear to have been restrained in their celebrations compared to in the city itself, where police condemned the hundreds of fans who turned out to celebrate on Thursday evening for breaking social distancing.

Assistant chief constable Rob Carden said Merseyside had been “disproportionately affected” by the coronavirus pandemic and its residents had a responsibility to prevent further cases.
