We reported on the latest plans for the reopening of the town centre. But that inluded the news that public toilets would not be opened. Here's what you had to say on our Facebook page.

Mark Holton: Absolute madness SBC! Find a solution/staff, and open the toilets.

All you do is push the problem elsewhere like in Bournemouth etc. Some people will just use the streets/car parks/alleyways etc. Businesses pay extortionate rates in the town centre, so deliver the services they expect.

Robert Turnbull: Absolutely ridiculous! Open the toilets, or people will just go in the streets, or will just boycott the town centre anyway! I don’t understand this absolutely crazy rule about toilets.

Lily O’Brien: The disabled toilets have been locked since March, along with the ladies/gents – absolutely appalling.

Gillian Hammond: SBC has closed all the public toilets one by one. This town is becoming a joke. No department stores (you can’t count House of Fraser which is more like a jumble sale) and now nowhere to “spend a penny”. No wonder people go to Bristol for some decent shopping!

Lee S. Bennett: So the facilities in the Brunel will be in high demand?

Laura Banstead: Toilets should be opened. The outside main door can be fixed open so nobody touches the handle and then as most people (who are worried by the virus) carry some sort of antibacterial wipe, they can easily clean the cubicle door handle.

Pete Fisher: Town Centre? Have we still got one in Swindon??

Elizabeth Cresswell: All write to the local council.

Stacey Wilson: Bring back the toilet attendants! Back in the day when they were monitored they were cleaned properly instead of once a day.

Adie Clayden: Either open it all or not at all.

Mell Morgan: I’m sorry but this is not fair. My best friend has really bad Crohn's and it’s impossible for her to hold a toilet when she has a flare up and needs to go.

Surly this go against human rights? There's going to be a lot of poop laying around the streets soon...

Steve Smitten: So why can’t the toilets be open? Absolutely pathetic. You can go shopping, you can go wherever, but you can’t go toilet. Shame on you.

Daisy Elizabeth Helen Brown: Why are toilets still shut? Ridiculous. What about people with bladder problems!

Valerie Sanders Daisy: Elizabeth Helen Brown totally agree – toilets are essential!

I’m not going to Swindon as can’t be much more than 1 hour or so without ‘spending a penny’! Many people are in same position as me! If they want to save our retail economy they need to open toilets asap and trust us to continue with safe hygiene precautions.

Many will go well prepared with hand gel, wipes & face coverings if they need/want to shop in town. Action please SBC!
