A CONVOY carrying cranes to the BMW site in Swindon could cause delays for drivers on the M4 and A419 on Saturday morning.

Two cranes each of around 41m in length will be transported with t he help of private and police escort vehicles to BMW Pressings on Bridge End Road.

The convoy is due to leave Membury Services on the M4 motorway at about 10am, exiting via junction 15 and onto the A419 before travelling onwards towards Oxford Road and Greenbridge via White Heart.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: "Due to its length, the load will be both slow moving and have the potential to cause congestion at junctions and also within Swindon where oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the convoy to pass.

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across the load.

"Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.

"Police escorting resources are being provided by officers, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public."
