These are some of the weird, wonderful and sometimes troubling entries to a This Country-inspired scarecrow festival held entirely online.

Over the coming week Paul Cooper, who plays Martin Mucklowe in the hit BBC Three series, will be inspecting the entries on Instagram and picking those that catch his eye.

Paul made just three rules for the virtual competition: “no negative nancies” allowed, no going out to buy materials and no breaking social distancing rules.

“So stay two metres away from your scarecrow at all times,” Paul said in an Instagram video announcing the festival.

Scarecrows of the vicar, Kurtan in his bowls club uniform and Martin Mucklowe himself were some of the dozens of entries submitted.

A scarecrow festival featured in the first episode of This Country.

The virtual festival was held on Instagram accounts @InsideBBCBristol and @paul57cooper to make sure Kurtan couldn’t set any of the public entries alight and to give people something fun to do during lockdown.
