More than 200 people have been discharged from Swindon’s hospital after being treated for coronavirus.

Great Western Hospital said the total number to have been discharged now stands at 209.

The family of one patient who had spent six weeks on the intensive care ward at GWH thanked the hospital staff who saved the woman’s life.

Elaine Woodage returned home on Sunday. Husband Steve said in a quote published on the hospital’s social media feeds: “There are no words appropriate enough to express mine and my daughter’s thanks, as at times it was unlikely we’d reach this outcome. But here we are, thanks to them.”

Since the pandemic began, 112 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died at GWH.
