A MAN was left bloodied after being hit over the head in an alleyway behind one of Swindon's best-known pubs.

The 50-year-old victim was struck by an unknown weapon in broad daylight, close to the Moonrakers in Cricklade Road.

Police probing the attack, which happened between 3.30pm and 4pm on April 2, believe it followed a row near the Whitworth Road Premier store.

Officers said the victim lost a substantial amount of blood.

Det Con Stephanie England said: “Although the assault itself happened down an alleyway, we believe that prior to this there was a verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect which took place near to the Premier store in Whitworth Road.

“It is therefore possible that somebody may have witnessed this and may be able to help with our investigation.

“This could include any members of the public who were walking in the area or passing motorists.
“This level of violence is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated within our community.”
