WILTSHIRE Air Ambulance is encouraging its supporters to ‘take a leap’ in its birthday year.

To celebrate the service’s 30th year of operation, a number of fun events have been organised for people to take part in while also raising vital funds for the charity.

For thrill seekers who would like to take to the skies there is a skydive on Sunday 31 May at Old Sarum Airfield, Salisbury.

Jumping from 10,000 feet in tandem with an experienced professional skydiver, participants will experience the dramatic scenery of Salisbury Plain.

For those who would like to experience the thrill of flying on the wings of a plane, why not take part in a wing walk?

Places are available on Tuesday 14 July at RFC Rendcomb Airfield, near Cirencester, and participants will be strapped to a Boeing Stearman biplane and experience a series of flypasts, zoom climbs, steep dives and banks.

If abseiling is something that appeals to you the charity is holding one at St Mary’s Church, Devizes, on Saturday 25 April.

If you prefer land-based events there are walking and running challenges to get involved in.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance is once again the chosen charity of the Devizes Half Marathon on Sunday 5 April and has free places available.

Or you could take on the challenge of trekking along the historical Ridgeway path in the Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones event on the weekend of 4 and 5 July, finishing at Avebury.

Finally, there is national Air Ambulance Week – 7-13 September – for which Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s theme is ‘yellow and green aplenty in 2020’.

Yellow and green are the colours of the charity’s helicopter and Rapid Response Vehicle and schools and businesses are being challenged to turn Wiltshire yellow and green with colourful outfits or baking cakes.

Kenresa Stratford, events co-ordinator at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said:

“We’re thrilled to offer a range of events that may well be on people’s bucket list or appeal to their sense of adventure.

“As well as challenging themselves, people who take part in our events will be helping their local air ambulance to continue flying and saving lives in its 30th birthday year.

“We rely on donations to continue saving lives and have to raise £3.75 million a year, that’s just over £10,000 a day.”
