A “DRUNKARD and violent bully” found hiding in a cupboard after throwing a brick through his ex-partner’s window and then threatening her has been given a final chance to avoid prison.

Nathan McParland, 25, who was living in Shelf but is now of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to criminal damage, intimidation and possession of cocaine.

Bradford Crown Court heard on Friday that he smashed the woman’s kitchen window in November last year when their brief relationship ended.

After he was charged with criminal damage and bailed by the police, he went round to her home, banged on the window and kicked the door.

He was arrested hiding in a cupboard in the Little Horton area of Bradford.

The court heard that McParland was offence free until he fell into the grip of drug and alcohol misuse.

He was drinking beer throughout the day and taking cocaine.

He had mental health issues that he was now receiving treatment for.

Judge Jonathan Rose sentenced McParland to nine months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a rehabilitation activity requirement.

The judge said McParland had changed since 2016 from a decent man of good character to “a drunkard and violent bully.”

The probation service courses would help address his problems with drink, drugs, thinking skills and anger.

“This is your last chance,” Judge Rose told McParland.
