Cirencester has hosted sports teams of all descriptions from as far back as anyone can remember.
Football and cricket are just as active today as they were reported in the Standard over a century ago.
Other sports have come and gone; quoits being one and water polo another. Water polo was once a highly popular sport at the Cirencester Open Air Pool with spectators filling the seats and wooden benches for league matches most weeks during the Summer months.
