Tomorrow is National Yorkshire Pudding Day and where better to eat one with your roast beef than a Cotswold pub.

Five Arkell’s Brewery pubs and hotels have got together to go head to head in a ‘battle of the batter’ as they fight to become the Cotswold King of the Yorkshire Pudding 2020.

The Bull Hotel, Fairford, The Golden Cross Inn in Cirencester, The Riverside Inn of Lechlade, The Priory Inn in Tetbury and The Angel Hotel of Royal Wotton Bassett are the five sites that will look to produce the best Yorkies in the region on finals day on Sunday.

An independent judging panel will judge all Yorkshire Puddings to declare an overall winner and Cotswold King of the Yorkshire Pudding.

This year there is a difference to the competition, won last year by The Priory Inn in Tetbury, a member of the public is invited to take part.

You can go head to head with the chefs by sending a pic of your best Yorkshire Pudding to contact@straight-pr.co.uk.

In 1737 the first recipe for ‘Dripping Pudding was recorded and published in the book The Whole Duties of a Woman, since then the British Sunday favourite has been used not just with roast beef but with salmon and even as part of desserts.

The Bull Hotel in Fairford are this year’s newcomers and manager Steven Pitt is confident of a result.

He said: “I used to work with Mark Lindesay at The Golden Cross Inn and I know he keeps his recipe even away from the chefs.

"He won it in 2017 and will be looking for revenge.

"We have a strong kitchen team here so we may go in as underdogs but are confident of a result.”

The Priory Inn in Tetbury has had a menu makeover by award winning chef Tom Bannister who knows a good Yorkshire Pudding when he sees one.

He said: “I have worked within some great kitchens and seen some great techniques for the perfect pudd’, the title is coming back to Tetbury."
