GLOUCESTERSHIRE's Counselling Service is running a free open day designed for anyone interested in counselling training.

In the heart of the town centre, the service is based in Stroud.

The open day will provide the opportunity to see the range of counselling training courses on offer at Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS).

The event promises to be lively and informal with lots of information to hand as well as tutors, trainees and staff available to discuss people’s interests and questions.

On offer will also be free presentations showcasing the Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling course as well as the Child and Family training courses that are a result of the collaboration with the prestigious London mental health facility, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.

GCS are offering free one-to-one sessions in which you can get the information and advice you need.

Courses range from an introductory level, suitable for anyone who wants to develop their listening and communication skills through to professional counselling training in a range of specialisms.

The introductory courses are particularly relevant for anyone thinking about professional counselling training or who manages or supervises others at work.

For anyone who is seeking a career in counselling you will have the chance to meet trainees and tutors from the Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling training course.

In the field of child and family work, GCS has also deepened its partnership with The Tavistock and Portman.

Following the success of the one-year post-graduate certificate course (D24) and the new two-year MA course in Psychological Therapies with Children, Young People and Families (M34), this year sees the launch of Emotional care of Babies, Children, Young People and Families (EC1).

Free presentations will be offered at the open day for these courses and although the sessions are complimentary, you do need to contact GCS to book a place.

For counsellors and therapists seeking training in specialist areas, the GCS CPD programme runs throughout the year.

GCS Training Director, Mike Keating said: ‘The open day is a great way to get a feel of how special it is to train and work with GCS.

"Come along and talk us, take a tour of the training rooms and book onto the free presentations.’

The open day takes place on Saturday, February 1, at the Old Town Hall from 10am to1pm.

There will also be a café area with free refreshments.
