Crapper & Sons blamed wet weather and high pressure for the foul smell emanating from its landfill site outside Royal Wootton Bassett.
The company released a statement after complaints about a bad odour blowing over Swindon on Monday.
It said: "The landfill is currently producing an odour due to the wet weather and high pressure.
"The current landfill cell we are filling is nearly full.
"We are working with the Environment Agency to sort the problem, we have installed biofilters to filter the gas through.
"We will be capping the sides of the current landfill cell once the weather improves if you need any further information please contact the office 01793 853998 but we are doing everything we can to monitor this and we are sorry for any inconvenience."
Crapper & Sons runs a 170 acre site off the Brinkworth Road, west of Royal Wootton Bassett and visible from the M4. The firm specialises in landfill and waste recycling.
