Chipping Sodbury Ladies 20

Old Bristolians Ladies 5

KATIE LANE bagged four tries as Chipping Sodbury posted a 20-5 victory over Old Bristolians, writes Martine Richardson

With possession equal for most of the first half, both sides’ defence was impenetrable, but Chipping Sodbury were determined to score. After turning the ball over, the home side realigned and got the ball to Lane who fought off three defenders with some cracking hand-offs to score her first try of the day on the 25th- minute mark, which turned out to be the only score of the half.

Lane scored her second try of the game after the break and completed her hat-trick as Sodbury increased their lead.

Losing a player to injury, Old Bristolians were forced to drop to 12 and Sodbury matched. However, the pace of the game continued, and the visitors were battling towards the Sodbury try line but were unable to break the defensive line.

Following a penalty kick that didn’t quite make touch, a gallant charge down by Kelly-Anne Parsons forced the visitors to put the ball down over their own line which produced a 22 dropout. Susan Stewart was on hand and ran the ball straight back towards the defence. Flanker Becky Anstey in support was stopped just shy of the line, however the ball made its way to the backs Lane to score an impressive fourth try of the day.

Old Bristolians were rewarded for their hard work throughout the game in the last two minutes when a spout of poor discipline saw Sodbury penalised twice, firstly for being off their feet but the second was for not being back 10 metres. A quick tap penalty on the 5- saw the visitors score their first and only try of the day on the 68th- minute mark.
