POPULAR Stroud pub the Crown and Sceptre has raised more than £600 for Cancer Research UK over the Christmas period.
The pub, which was named the SNJ's Pub of the Year 2019, raised £663 through events they held during the festive season.
Staff ran a grand prize hamper draw just before Christmas, along with a Christmas meat raffle and they also raised money from selling New Year's Eve tickets.
Speaking on the reasons behind choosing the charity, landlord Rodda Thomas said: "This year at the pub, we have been touched by cancer with some of our locals battling it, along with one of our favourite members of our bar staff, who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
"My best friend Abe was also taken from us, so it was obvious which charity we would be raising the money for."
The pub will also be holding a party for Abe who passed away in the autumn, and they will be collecting money for Cancer Research UK on the night.
The party will feature two Reggae bands, with Caribbean food provided by Jamaica Inn, and it will be held on Friday, January 24, with free entry.
