ECOTRICITY owner Dale Vince has praised the approach by supermarkets to become more vegan-friendly following the release of Greggs' new vegan steak bake.

Although Mr Vince revealed he wasn't a fan of the bake himself, he said he was happy with Greggs' new approach to vegan food.

Posting on Facebook, Mr Vince wrote: "This (Greggs vegan steak bake) looks revolting to me, but I’m not the target audience and I’m glad to see Greggs doing this.

"Their debut vegan product ‘sausage roll’ turbo charged sales last year and this is the normal commercial response to a demand identified.

"All good stuff. I tried the sausage roll and thought it awful, but lots of people love it, Forest Green Rovers has a far better one, just saying.

"Good to see the supermarkets upping their game too, the co-op with vegan alcohol (which is just alcohol without fish bladder, yes seriously) and Waitrose with 30 new lines and KFC with a permanent veggie burger too.

"I reckon this plant based food revolution is going places, 2020 will be another stand out year."
