STROUD is the second healthiest district in Gloucestershire, according to a recent study.

The medial group Babylon Health collected data from over 38,000 users of its Healthcheck app across the UK. They assigned an overall score out of 100 to districts of the UK based on diet, smoking and exercise.

The factors which were considered included the amount of alcohol consumed per week as well as the amount of fruit and vegetables eaten each week.

Smoking was also considered, with the number of cigarettes smoked a day as well as the number of smokers and quitters in each district measured.

Resistance exercise was also a factor, as was the amount of moderate and intense exercise per week.

According to the research, Stroud had a total of 56.5 points, which ranks it the 144th healthiest in the UK, meaning it finished mid-table out of the entire UK.

Dr Claudia Pastides, a GP at Babylon, said: “In our study almost a third of adults from Stroud had smoked, with a high percentage of ex-smokers who have now quit.

“For keeping fit, Stroud residents did an average amount of moderate and intense exercise compared to their Gloucestershire neighbours, however their results still came in under national guidelines, which recommend 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week. That could include a brisk 30-minute walk each day, dancing or riding a bike.” To explore the data further, visit: https://bit.ly/36XwGkO
