Stroud District Council has plans in place to ensure waste and recycling collections continue during the holiday period, here is everything you need to know about changed collection dates.

Householders whose collections would usually fall on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day will have their refuse collected on a different day.

The key dates to remember are that if your collection would fall on Wednesday December 25, it will be collected on Saturday December 28, if it falls on Thursday December 26, it will be collected on Monday December 30, and if it falls on Wednesday January 1, then it will be collected on Saturday January 4.

Defra figures show that SDC is one of the top performing recycling councils in England.

Stroud District Council Environment Committee chair Simon Pickering said: “With the festive period fast-approaching, please remember that weather-permitting, our waste and recycling crews will be out on the usual collection days apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, when alternative collection days are in place.

"This is a time when many households will take deliveries wrapped in cardboard, so please also remember to flatten card and cardboard and put it in your recycling box. Extra cardboard should be reduced to approximately the size of a green box and placed neatly underneath or next to the recycling box on collection day.”

Glass, cans, plastic bottles and plastic containers can go in recycling wheelie bins or bags. It’s important that these items do not go in to food caddies.

Polystyrene foam and wrapping paper can’t currently be recycled, so please place that in your household waste and not in your recycling.

If bad weather strikes and snow or ice holds up collections, residents should leave their waste and recycling out for two days including Saturdays but not Sundays.

If crews are unable to collect it within this period, it should be taken back in until the next scheduled collection. The safety of crews and the public is paramount in ice and snow conditions.
