I view the chosen design for the proposed multi-storey carpark with real dismay.

How can aluminium and stone be the most appropriate choice for this historic town, and there is no mention of rethinking the alarming height of the structure?

However a much greater question concerns the wisdom of encouraging more vehicles to come into the town at all.

I believe Cotswold District Council has acknowledged the Climate Emergency and is committed to doing everything possible to mitigate against the damage we humans are causing.

It is surely time to look again seriously at a Park & Ride scheme.

There appears to be land on both the Cheltenham and Tetbury sides of the town that could be acquired for such a scheme.

Electric buses bringing people into town would be less polluting than increasing the number of cars.

Could it also be, if the will were there, that implementing a Park & Ride scheme would be quicker and more straight forward than constructing a huge multi-storey carpark?

Park and Ride schemes work well in other towns and cities, indeed the scheme in Bath is brilliant!

Obviously money has already been spent on the proposed multi-storey project, but in believing it is not too late, I would BEG the members of the council and appointed officers to think again, not only about the best way to make the town accessible for visitors and local people, but also about taking a brave stand to protect us all from the concentration of increased noise pollution and harmful traffic fumes in the town.
